This topic environment moved us at our last MeetUp and stimulated discussion among all participants.<br \/><strong>Ellen Duwe, Agile Coach<\/strong> supported the practical examples of<strong> Christian Huppertz, Product Owner at BMW,<\/strong> with theory models.<\/p>\n<p>From conflict emergence, to different stages of conflict, to resolution approaches and insights into the reality of agile teams, the two speakers took the attendees along for the ride.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5f1a8ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5f1a8ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The classical conflict theory states that three points are crucial for a conflict to prevail:<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bcf1af7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"bcf1af7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"413\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mint-solutions.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Konflikte.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large wp-image-2608\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mint-solutions.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Konflikte.jpg 413w, https:\/\/www.mint-solutions.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Konflikte-253x300.jpg 253w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8687883 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8687883\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1. experienced inconsistency in thinking, feeling, acting that is threatening for at least one person.<\/p>\n<p>  2. a clear assignment of guilt must take place on which consequently an action (3.) takes place.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in understanding conflict, it is important to understand the different levels.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Duwe about the different levels:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Conflict of opinion can be beneficial &#8211; as long as it is purely about the matter at hand, e.g. a budget or work content. <\/em><em>A discursive, even sometimes contradictory, exchange on factual issues in the team is necessary.<br \/>Without factual conflicts, there would be <\/em> <em>no progress, no innovation.<\/p>\n<p>However, if factual conflicts become too heated, emotions come into play.  <\/em><em>A relationship conflict arises between two or more people.<br \/>The more intense the conflict, the stronger the emotional  <\/em><em>and the smaller the logically rational part in the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Conflicts of this kind tend to escalate and can lead to  <\/em><em>then best resolved through moderation or mediation by an uninvolved third party.<\/em><br \/><em>Structural conflicts are conflicts caused by the structure or processes of an organization. This can happen when a new young Product<br \/>Owner joins a very experienced team and encounters resistance from the team because, for example, user stories are not written in the same way.<br \/>are as expected or the so-called &#8220;Ready Status&#8221; does not meet the expectations of the team. Christian Huppertz advises here the retrospective to<br \/>use to communicate to the TOE what the team expects and to identify conflicts early.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f113122 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f113122\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Because agile working does not avoid conflicts, but at best makes them visible at an early stage<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82706dc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"82706dc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the case of major conflicts, Christian Huppertz reports from his experience that it is helpful to involve the Scrum masters of other teams or even<br \/>to ask the organization for help to clarify this. It should also be accepted that <em>&#8220;professional conflicts are deliberate in order to<\/em><br \/><em>evolve the product and consider different points of view.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christian Huppertz on conflict examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d0af08 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0d0af08\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>&#8220;Another potential source of conflict has been the introduction of new working methods in which the roll  <\/em><em>and understanding of values changes, or even if new teams are found. Often, people with the most diverse experiences then meet<\/em><br \/><em>and backgrounds, each using the same terms, but with a different understanding and set of values behind them. Thereby  <\/em><em>there can be a lot of discussion or even argument when it comes to planning, budget allocation<br \/>or the distribution of tasks. Christian  <\/em><em>advises her, especially during the introduction, to make sure that people and teams understand the new roles, partly work them out themselves and together  <\/em><em>and also accept. Should this only lead to a<br \/>later on, it is helpful to address this clearly and openly either through  <\/em><em>a 1-to-1 clarification or in a team. In 1-to-1 clarification, the clarification should be communicated to the team with the solution so that the team can<\/em><br \/><em>is informed that the conflict has been resolved.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a144161 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a144161\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When there is no way out of a conflictual situation, it is worthwhile to get an outside view. This can happen, for example, through external mediators, who can give new impulses through a neutral point of view, or can show ways in which the conflict parties can<br \/>find a solution.
